Custom Icon Sets

Oxygen ships with a stock icon library, but you can add your own SVG icons to it. Uploaded
icons join the same picker as the built-in ones, so they're available to every element that
takes an icon.

Uploading icons

  1. Select an element with an icon control and click the icon to open the Icon Library.
  2. Click Upload.
  3. Drag your SVG files onto the drop zone, or click it to choose files.
  4. In the Save icons to existing set, or create a new icon set… box, pick an existing
set or type a name to create a new one.
  5. Click the save button.

Your icons are now in the library under that set, and the set appears alongside the stock
sets in the sidebar of the picker.

What you can upload

  • Individual SVG files. Each file becomes one icon, named after the file.
  • An IcoMoon symbol-defs.svg export. Drop the symbol-defs.svg file itself and
Oxygen splits it into individual icons automatically.

Zip files aren't supported — if you've downloaded an icon pack as a zip, extract it first
and upload the SVG files inside.

Exporting and deleting a set

The Icon Library has Export and Delete buttons for the selected set. Export gives
you a file you can import into another site, which is the quickest way to carry a brand
icon set between projects.

Note: Exporting requires the zip PHP extension. If it's missing, the export fails
with an error instead of producing a file — see
Hosting & Server Requirements.

You don't need to enable SVG uploads

WordPress blocks SVG uploads to the media library by default, and Oxygen has a setting to
lift that restriction — but it has nothing to do with custom icon sets. The icon
uploader reads your SVG files in the browser and saves their markup into Oxygen's own icon
library, so the WordPress media library is never involved. Custom icon sets work with that
setting switched off.

Allow SVG Uploads In The WP Media Library is what you
want when you need an SVG as a media file — an Image element's source, a logo, or a
background image.
