Tools

The Tools tab collects the maintenance jobs you run occasionally — rebuilding the CSS
cache, fixing URLs after a site move, exporting your settings, and resetting Oxygen back
to factory defaults. In wp-admin, go to Oxygen → Settings → Tools.

Unlike the other settings tabs, there is no Save Changes button here. Every button
runs its job the moment you click it.

Regenerate CSS Cache

Every time you save something in the builder, Oxygen caches the CSS and other
dependencies that item needs. Saving one page rebuilds the cache for that page only.

Regenerate CSS Cache rebuilds the cache for everything Oxygen has created —
pages, templates, headers, footers, components. Progress is reported in place as it
works through your content.

Soft Reset

Restores your icon sets to the stock set that ships with Oxygen.

Internally it empties the icon and icon-set tables and reinstalls the defaults, so
any icon set you uploaded yourself is deleted — re-upload it afterwards. Your pages
and content aren't touched.

It also re-applies the two settings a fresh install starts with: the skip link on the
Advanced tab is switched back on, and Oxygen's own theme handling is
re-enabled. Everything else on the settings tabs stays as you left it. Oxygen asks you
to confirm before running it.

Total Reset

Deletes every setting Oxygen stores and reinstalls the factory defaults. That includes
everything on the other settings tabs, plus your builder preferences — custom fonts and
custom breakpoints — and your icon sets.

Your content survives: pages, templates, headers, footers and components are WordPress
posts, and Total Reset leaves them alone. That also means it doesn't uninstall Oxygen —
if you want the content gone too, delete those posts yourself. Oxygen asks you to
confirm before running it.

Create Directories

Oxygen writes generated files into wp-content/uploads/oxygen/ — css for cached
stylesheets, fonts and font_styles for custom fonts, and design_sets for design
library data. This button creates any of them that are missing.

If a directory can't be created or written to, the failing path and the underlying
filesystem error are listed under the button, which is usually enough to hand to your
host.

Replace URL

Moving a site to a new domain leaves absolute URLs behind in your page data. Enter the
old URL in the first field and the new one in the second, then click Replace URL.
Oxygen reports how many database rows it changed.

Two things worth knowing about its scope:

  • It rewrites Oxygen's own page data (the _oxygen_data post meta) and your builder
preferences. It does not touch post content, options belonging to other plugins,
or anything else in the database — if you moved a whole WordPress site, you still
need a general search-and-replace tool for the rest.
  • It regenerates your custom font stylesheets every time it runs, even when no URLs
matched. So if you replaced URLs with another tool and your custom fonts stopped
loading, running this tool fixes the font files.

Back up your database before running it. The change is a direct database update and
there is no undo.

Tip: If you change the Site Address under Settings → General, Oxygen notices
and shows a notice offering to take you here with both fields already filled in.

Export Settings

Download Export File gives you a JSON file — named oxygen_settings_<date>.json —
containing everything Oxygen keeps as a site setting: the settings tabs, your builder
preferences (custom fonts and breakpoints), and your global selectors and variables along
with their saved revisions, which is what makes the file large on an established site.
Your licence key and the caches are deliberately left out, so an export is safe to move
between sites.

It does not contain your pages or templates — those are WordPress posts — and it does not
contain your icon sets, which Oxygen stores in their own database tables and which have
their own Export button in the
Icon Library.

It's the quickest way to set up a second site the way you like it, or to keep a copy
before a Total Reset.

Import Settings

Choose an export file and click Upload Export JSON File to apply it. Every setting the
file contains overwrites what you have now; settings the file doesn't mention are left as
they are. Oxygen asks you to confirm first.

Exporting and importing settings requires a licensed copy of Oxygen; both buttons are
disabled otherwise.
