HTML5 Video

The HTML5 Video element plays a video file with the browser's native <video> player —
no YouTube embed, no player library. Use it for self-hosted videos: background loops,
product demos, hero videos.

Until you choose a file, the element plays a placeholder video.

Content

The HTML5 Video element's Content tab
  • Video File URL — click Choose to pick a video from the WordPress media
    library.
  • Loop, Autoplay, Muted, Controls, Plays Inline — each toggle (all
off by default) adds the matching boolean attribute to the <video> tag: loop,
    autoplay, muted, controls, playsinline.

Two combinations worth knowing, straight from how browsers treat these attributes:

  • For a visible player, turn on Controls — without it the video has no play
    button.
  • For a background-style video, turn on Autoplay, Muted, and Loop —
browsers block autoplay with sound, so autoplay only works reliably when muted.

On the front end

The element renders a single <video> tag with a generated per-element class, the
oxy-video class, src pointing at your file, and whichever boolean attributes your
toggles enable.

  • OEmbed — for embedding hosted video (YouTube,
Vimeo) and other embeddable content by URL.
