Field Options

A binding doesn't have to render the raw value. Click a bound token in the properties
panel and its options open — text to put around the value, a length limit, a fallback for
when the field is empty, and whatever options that particular field has of its own.

Every string field has an Advanced popout with four options:

  • Prepend / Append — text added before or after the value, like "By " in front
of an author name. It's only added when the field has a value.
  • Limit Characters — trims a long value, useful for excerpts in card layouts.
  • Fallback — what to render when the field is empty. Worth setting on any optional
field so the page doesn't render a blank space.

Fields also have their own options above Advanced. Post fields can target a specific
post by search or by ID instead of the current one; Post Date has Format and a Type
choice (published or modified — note the default is modified); Author Name picks
which name part to show. The copy icon in the popout header copies the field's
shortcode so you can paste the same binding into a code element or another control.

The options are per binding, not per field: the same field bound in two places can be
formatted differently in each.
