Headers & Footers

Build your header and footer once and Oxygen renders them automatically, sitewide or only
where the conditions you set are met.

  1. Go to Oxygen → Headers (or Oxygen → Footers) and click Add Header /
    Add Footer.
  2. Give it a Title and choose a Location. For a normal site header or footer,
choose Everywhere — it then renders on every page, including archives, search
    results, and the 404 page.
  3. Save.

Narrowing where it applies

Everywhere is the common case, but a header or footer doesn't have to be sitewide. Add
Conditions to the same dialog and it renders only where they're met, and set a
Priority to decide which one wins when more than one could apply. Both work exactly as
they do for content templates — see
Location, Conditions & Priority for the full explanation.

The one thing specific to headers and footers is that priority resolves them
separately: for each request Oxygen picks the highest-priority active header, and
independently the highest-priority active footer. That's how you override a sitewide
header for one section — give the section's header a more specific location or a higher
priority, and the Everywhere header loses only there.

Editing it in Oxygen

Click the header or footer's name to open it in Oxygen. The builder shows only the
header or footer itself on the canvas — not the pages it will appear on. The toolbar
shows which document you're editing (Header: Site Header) and a Preview page
picker, which selects the content the canvas uses as context — useful when your header
shows dynamic data. The Template Content Area element is not available here; it belongs
to templates.

Hiding them on a single page

To drop the header and footer from one specific page — a landing page, for example —
you don't need conditions. In the WordPress editor for that page, set Template (in
the Page settings sidebar) to [Breakdance] No Header / Footer. The page then
renders without any header or footer while the rest of the site keeps them.
